SwInBee 2026

The sixth SwInBee was held on Tuesday, 15 September, 2026.

Congratulations to Sebastian Stevenson, who was the overall winner!

Many thanks to Addie Woolford Alex Herman, Alexander Trevorrow-Johnston, Calan Hurle, Dylan Armstrong, Kai Raiteri, Lexuan Chen, Sebastian Stevenson for participating in the competition, Jacqui Dong and James Evans for spectating, and to maths department staff who attended and helped out with marking, especially Fede Frascoli, Louise Olsen-Kettle, Andrey Pototskyy, Sergey Suslov, and Nadia Sukhorukova.

The event was held in a really supportive atmosphere with a lot of enthusiasm for maths.

In the end the person named Champion Integrator was Sebastian Stevenson who received a $200 prize, runner up was Calan Hurle ($150), third place Alex Herman ($100), and fourth place Addie Woolford ($50).

All finals were close, with controversy arising in the grand final as we had scenes that were reminiscent of the tied Collingwood-St Kilda AFL grand final of 2010.

For the first grand final integral, Calan had the correct answer but missed the “+C”, then Sebastian finished and was declared the winner, only for an error to be discovered in one of the constants!

In the grand final replay held 2 minutes later (here the parallel with the AFL grand final breaks down slightly) Sebastian quickly solved the following integral to be declared the Champion Integrator of 2026: $$\int e^{\sqrt{x}} \; dx$$

You can download the pdf files for the qualifying round questions and questions with solutions. If you'd really like a worked solution for any of these integrals please contact Nathan Clisby.

The prize winners were:

Champion Integrator Sebastian Stevenson
Second prize Calan Hurle
Third prize Alex Herman
Fourth prize Addie Woolford
